Experience

If you seek a tenured, degreed professional in the commercial / industrial construction arena with a proven track record of successfully completing profitable and often difficult projects, both horizontal and vertical, from 1M to 100M and, who is continuing his education working toward LEED AP & CQM-C Certification, look no further. Having worked in the various capacities of General Superintendent, Project Superintendent, Project Manager, Estimator and Construction Manager throughout my career, I have an innate understanding of the nuances of project success & how it relates to client relationships from different perspectives. I bring with me an exceptional level of commitment, knowledge, expertise, communicability and professional ethics which are executed equally well in the field and office with Vendors, Owners, the Design Team, Company Executives and Current & Prospective Clients as well as 'our' team.

2010–Current    Boran Craig Barber Engel Construction Co., Inc. (BCBE) Naples, Fl.
Project Manager / General Contractor
·         High Rise Condominiums, Correctional, Airport, Public & Government, High End Residential
In this position I have complete project oversight from estimating through bid opening and award, contract negotiation, locating, vetting & soliciting bids from vendor base, leading value engineering effort when appropriate. Project planning and scheduling, through construction to project closeout. Document administration, contract administration, create & process payment applications, change orders and variance purchase orders. In this position I was hired as a Project Superintendent and within the first six months agreed to move into a Project Management position.
2006 – 2010    Hawkins Construction, Inc.                         Tarpon Springs, Florida
Project Superintendent / General Contractor
·         Big Box, Retail, Public, Regional Malls, Banking, Airports, Hospitality, Office, Government
Oversee and plan the daily construction activities of the projects, including scheduling for the sub-contractors, coordinating activities with and for the assistant site superintendents, determine need and generate resulting RFI’s where necessary, review payment applications, change orders and purchase orders, perform take-offs for and delivery of equipment and material, responsible for layout and quality control for various aspects of the project and the sub-contractors, conduct on-site inspections to document progress of the project, liaise with project engineers, state and local officials, utility companies, architects & Owners, identify and clarify nuances of the project to complete the project within the given budget and timeframe. Conduct onsite inspection of work throughout construction in order to maintain and insure compliance with plans, specifications and other contract documents, establish, maintain, review and adjust as necessary critical path schedule, site staffing and safety compliance, maintain safety policy and perform weekly on-site safety and coordination meetings. I am very experienced with a variety of the fields concepts, practices, and procedures and rely on my extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish project goals. I perform a variety of tasks and exercise a wide degree of creativity and latitude throughout project and typically report to a project manager or vice president of construction. I travel for the firm as needed and cover the state of Florida. Projects range from big box, retail, hospitality, etc. I maintain the company safety policy and implement additional plans as needed. Once I am handed a budget, set of plans and LOI’s, I am expected to perform the work on time and on budget or better, and I do.  In this position I successfully managed the on-site project team and we were able to turn a notable profit (injury free) on the largest project Hawkins Construction had undertaken to date (see project list for details) which was an open air mall spread out over a 125 acre site. Additionally, one of my notable achievements was to be brought in to manage an open air mall project in Cape Coral, Florida which was already four months underway when the current superintendent had to leave due to family considerations. I really had to 'hit the ground running' on this one and commit an extraordinary time and effort commitment to make this one a success. As a team we ‘did what it took’ to make this a notable success for the Owners and Hawkins Construction and one of the most profitable projects of the year. During this project we developed relationships with the developer and regional authorities which stand in good stead today.

1999–2006        Serenity Builders, Ltd.                                    Hiram, Ga.
Construction Manager / Project Manager   Design / Build General Contractor
·         Multi-Family, Residential, Restaurant, Retail, Strip Centers, Hotel, Interiors & Residential Development
Areas of responsibility include business development and marketing, establish operating procedures and policies for larger more complicated projects which enabled the company to enter into government contracts, design, maintain and periodically adjust the implementation of successful business plan and the day to day growth of the business, P & L oversight and responsibility, document administration, contract administration and litigation, project estimating, project management from due diligence to closing letter, liaise with city, county state and federal governments throughout construction process’, design and generate construction quality blueprints, manage, establish and maintain critical path schedule for multiple simultaneous projects, review payment applications, change orders and variance purchase orders. In this position I was hired as Senior Project Manager and quickly moved into the position of Construction Manager / Manager of Operations. One of my successes here was to initiate an effort wherein we pursued DOD / government contracts. Through this effort we were involved in some of the first public / private ventures with the DOD wherein we built commercial guest quarters at military bases, (see project list for details). We also migrated from wholly construction management at risk firm to a self perform design build GC for much of the work we performed which elevated our ‘at risk’ profile but also substantially increased our profit and margins base. It proved to be a very successful model for the firm.
